LBS Baltimore

Leaders of a Beautiful Struggle (LBS) is a grassroots think-tank which advances the public policy interest of Black people, in Baltimore, through: youth leadership development, political advocacy, and autonomous intellectual innovation.

We seek to radically change the discourse around local and regional politics by injecting community voices into political conversations through policy research, advocacy, and community organizing from a grassroots perspective.

We receive no funding from any foundations, nonprofits, or political parties. Instead, we are an independent group of concerned leaders engaging hands on with the political sphere.

Baltimore Algebra Project

Our mission is to ensure that all students have access to quality, 21st century education which includes learning and mastering advanced math.

We value the intelligence of Baltimore City Youth by paying a living wage to teach math to their peers; training and honing their existing leadership skills; and supporting their vision for a just, more equitable Baltimore and beyond.

Quality Education, adequate employment, proper healthcare, and safety is the right of every Baltimore City Youth.

Physical altercations can be common in correctional institutions. To provide new strategies for dealing with conflict, Eddie Conway and AFSC established the Friend of a Friend mentoring project which now operates in three sites in Maryland. The goal is to reduce institutional violence by providing tools that build healthy relationships, create support structures, and develop effective communication skills.
